Honestly no there is no easy way to quit smoking, trust me! It is mostly surrounding yourself with people who do not smoke. Gum is the best way so far. You have a craving you chew the gum any time! It is going to be hard I won’t lie to you but if you have the drive and ambition to quit you will succeed!

Hypnosis for weight loss, quitting smoking, making positive life changes??

Have you ever used hypnosis to help you acheive a goal? I’d like to try it for weight loss. Actually, I’d like to use it to help me “believe” I love working out and going to the gym. I’d also like it to make me believe I prefer healthy foods over my favorite junk foods.
Last but not least. If it works for getting fit I’d try it to quit smoking.
If you’ve ever tried hypnosis can you tell me how effective it was? Who performed the procedure? I’d love to hear your details and recommendations. Thanks!

Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for weight loss and smoking!
Through hypnosis the hypnotist is aloud to talk directly to your subconscious mind. I like to call the subconscious the “feeling level mind”. The thing you need to know before you go to the hypnotist is how much weight you need to lose. If it is a small amount ( about 15 or fewer pounds) than feel free to book an appointment. If you need to lose more than that than there may be an emotional reason to your bad eating habits. Than you can still go to a hypnotist butt make sure that they are qualified to use hypnoanalyasis. If they are it would be best to get a doctors referral before you go.

1 warning. Since there is not yet any formalized degree system for hypnosis some hypnotist may have had little or bad training. The best way to find a good hypnotist is to ask people living in the area who have used hypnosis or your doctor may be able to help. If you go to a hypnotist ( willingly) and follow their directions you should have no trouble losing weight. If it doesn’t work don’t worry, i strongly encourage you to try another hypnotist. If that doesn’t work that there is a strong subconscious tie to your eating habits.

I began smoking at the age of 15 and finally quit for good at the age of 57 (a year ago), when I was at a pack a day. Even tho’ all the experts say you have to go cold turkey, I think that just increases the craving. This is how I did it. Every time I wanted a cigarette, I only smoked half of it. So, I immediately cut my intake in half. After a few weeks of doing that (gives your body time to adjust to less nicotine), I would only take about 4 puffs, put it out and save it for the next craving. After a few weeks of that, I went to 2 puffs, then one puff (where one cigarette could last me a day or two). My body gradually got used to doing without the nicotine and I got to a point where I said, “when this pack is done, I’m not buying anymore”. That was a year ago. Recently, I stayed with my son, who smokes, and took a drag off his cigarette. I didn’t like the taste and it hurt my throat. If I can do it, you can do it, because I loved smoking!!!

Questions about anxiety…?

A little into my life:

Had a baby almost 2 years ago, am 23 and living with my bf, had some depression before meeting him and after having a baby (which I know can be common), so DR put me on Cipralex. He told me to get soem therapy but the cheapest therapy I could find I still could not afford as we are on a very tight budget. (IF YOU KNOW OF FREE THERAPY IN VANCOUVER BC CANADA LET ME KNOW!).

I used to be the most outgoing, life of the party teenager, didnt care what people thoguht of me and was always “happy”.

Now that my body has changed so much since having a kid (bed rest @ 6mnths, 3rd degree tear, muscles torn on stomach area, stretch marks galore) Ive felt more anxious about life. I know thats normal so I understand that part, but I also dont feel like I can talk to people anymore. Im a stay at home mama so was wondering if thats cuz Im not around adults anymore?

I sweat all the time when in public, whether its raining or sunny, I studder and cant get the words out, I look down alot and cant really look people in the eyes. Im wondering if this could be because of cipralex (anti depressant) or is something wrong with me or does every mom go through this?

My Boyfriend works full time and is an awesome dad and huge help when hes home. hes amazing. hes the mane very girl would want yet I dont feel happy with him. I dont feel as in love as I ever did and feel like Id rather be alone then with him.

Sometimes I feel like I dont care about anything but my son, and just want to run away or die (I never ever try to kill myself or anything like that but sometimes I feel like theres a voice in my head thinking and suggesting things I could do, but Ive never listened)

I feel like Im talking to someone sometimes when Im home alone with just my little kid. While Im doing dishes, cooking, brushing my teeth, showering whatever I have these convos not out loud to myself but Im running scenerios in my head and I seem to pretend like its real with maybe people I know or dont. Its wierd and hard to explain cuz this has never happened to me much before.

I go up and down sometimes, from happy to angry to frustrated (maybe hormones??).

for the last month Ive had a really bad eye twitch in one eye, almost every day at least once every 5 minutes it twitched for the first 3 weeks its slowed down a bit now but still very there.

Ive also had a problem with binge eating (I dont purge or anything like that but I just cant stop eating).

I also was smoking weed in my past alot (not much since having a child and not at all while pregnant!)
But sometimes when my baby is at his grandparents I will smoke a joint and it always calms me and makes me feel better but …I dont want to be smoking weed anymore now that Im a mother, I know that im not addicted to marijuana because I never crave it or feel I need it and I dont always have it around. But its like a glass of wine with dinner for me I just dont want to now that my son is getting older.

I dont know, I have alot of questions about myself right now and alot of confusion in whats going on with me… Im familyless as my family is very distant and all live their own lives, my mother wants nothing to do with me for no reason and I dont talk with my siblings. My father was never around and so Ive always felt really alone. I just need some help I think..
You are both So kind and nice to have said those things about me Thank you so much for that (when your in a depression anything nice is way more than just words)

I will talk to my dr about those things you guys suggested, for sure!

You do need help, but you have made the first step. It seems as if your anxiety and depression is really taking its toll. You need therapy, and I can sympathise with not being able to afford it. Talk to your doctor and explain your situation all again and ask him if there is any additional help he could provide, or some free therapy service he could put you in contact with. It could possibly be the medication which is making things worse, but your doctor will be able to advise you whether or not this is this the case. It seems like you are having trouble dealing with the transition from being a happy teenager to a mother stuck in a loveless relationship. It is a huge step, and despite what others think you come across as a great mother, don’t let anyone else say otherwise. Maybe going back into work, or socialising more could help you deal with this. You just don’t sound very happy, and although depression is a medical illness, just trying to enjoy life can help you get out of it.

Becoming a police officer in Canada?

I am 16 years old currently doing level 2(grade 11) I am leaning towards going in and doing a career in the police force. I want to become an RNC officer in Newfoundland. Only thing that bothers me is the polygraph questions that they ask you. First thing is I have smoked marijuana MANY times although i dont plan to be doing this for the rest of my life, i’d obviously stop when i entered university or trade school. Iv’e also done acid ONCE i dont plan on doing it again but i have done it. Ive also heard that they ask you ” Have you ever been in possesion, transported, trafficed, or sold illegal substances?” Heres the thing, I have technically trafficed drugs but not in the drug dealer kind of way. Like I have bought marijuanna off people for say $20 then my friends would want to smoke it with me and they paid me $5 each and there was 5 of them so i made $5 but didnt plan on this, I have also bought weed myself for say $10 or $5 and sold it to a friend for the same amount that i paid for it. Also another time i planned on taking ecstacy, bought it and ended up not doing it because i was too scared of trying it, So i sold it to my friend that wanted it for $15( and i paid $10 for it) again here i didnt plan on making profit or selling it, it just happened. This is basically my drug background. I was wondering will any of this STOP me from becoming a police officer? anyone who has experience or background in the police force and know about this would be a great help thanks!

Police protocol question -Canada Ontario?

Where can I get to know the police protocol for different situations, traffic stops, arrests, etc. I would like to get educated on what is supposed to happen. Ive had some unfavorable encounter with some poorly trained officers. (skip the next paragraph of examples if you don’t need proof that im just some idiot causing trouble)

One example is that im always being pulled over at night time when im walking around on the street. I don’t wear anything revealing or look anything like im soliciting but I keep getting pulled over for a chat. Most of the officers are very nice, I understand walking alone at night I might look like I need some help getting somewhere or its nice that they come up and ask if I need some thing and if everything is ok, that I understand and appreciate. But there have been several occasions where I was told I cannot leave until they did a check on me, asked for id, searched my name, I asked for what reason am I being harassed and they didn’t tell me anything, while the second officer flirted with me and asked me if I like to go out for drinks… So in those situations id like to know when I can deny my identification, or have the right to walk away, etc. Another example a friend of mine was told he will be arrested if he did not show them the contents of his bag, and was patted down, simply because there were some teenagers in the area who have been smoking pot. We weren’t, we didn’t even have anything on us indicating as such, nor was there any odor around us, the officers probably showed up 20 minutes after the call and we were in the park area…

For all those reasons and more Id like to educate myself and feel less out of control in situations I have not wronged in the slightest.

Ideally id like to get my hands on a police protocol hand book, for training officers or something like that, I don’t mind buying one somewhere, I just don’t know where to get one.
“-that im NOT, just some idiot causing trouble.” typo

I found a copy of Carswell Publishing’s, “Police manual for arrest, seizure and Interrogation” at a local used bookstore (score!) for 6 bux. But, if you’d rather not search it out on the street you can always order a new copy @

http://www.carswell.com/search_result.asp?txtSearch=police+manual&selSearch=keyword

It details fairly precisely what an officer can and cannot do and uses interesting anecdotes from caselaw to explain the hows and whys of officer duties and obligations.

Funfact 1: there is NO statute of Canada that requires you to carry gov’t issued ID. I think you’ll find that most stops, outside of safety/suspicious activity stops, are fishing expeditions.

Funfact 2: you have the right to refuse discussion with officers if not under arrest. Threatening you with arrest because you don’t produce ID is considered gross negligence. Nothing you say to them can be used to help you but everything you say can and will be used against you. Lesson: Don’t talk to cops.

Bro, things are going to be difficult, but one of the most important things you need is to be patient. I have a long distance relationship, but even I admit I am pretty lucky with the circumstances. It could have turned into nothing at any point.

Ok first you need to know if she feels the same way. Try to bring it in a nice way, tell her you wish to get to know her better to see if there is a future. Perhaps she will be interested enough that she will somehow acquire an internet connection, just to talk to you. I would say that is essential, because phoning is pretty expensive. Then once you get at that point, you take things step by step, possibly visiting her again and having a heartfelt talk.

Just a warning though don’t get your hopes up, especially with the age difference and distance working against you..

That first responder was obviously high while writing his response….

Anyways, what helped or worked for me was smoking cheaper smokes that taste real bad. I could only handle to light it and then put it out. Averaging about 1-2 smokes per day. It was a re-light festival until I finally decided I just didn’t want it anymore. That was after 24 years of smoking and a whole lot more per day than you too so you may see quicker results. A whole lot of it is mind set too. Good Luck

Smoking While Pregnant?

Do any of you have ideas on stopping smoking cigarettes while pregnant? I’m having a really really hard time, and I’m 14 weeks along. I’m having a hard time cutting back even. I smoked over a pack a day (Way back from that now,I don’t do that anymore) when I had my daughter, and she was a healthy 7 lb 7 oz baby. No lung problems. I just want advice on ways to cut back/quit,anyone else have the same problem?
I too am a smoker and I talked to my doctor about this. I used to smoke a pack a day but now I am about a half a pack a day. My doctor is very pleased with that.

She did tell me, back when I was 9 weeks pregnant that in my 2nd trimester there is a pill that the doctor can prescribe and it is safe to take while pregnant to quit smoking. That is definitely something you could ask your doctor about.

Overall, I want to quit too. However, my doctor said it isn’t going to harm a baby like everyone makes it out to be. I don’t want to do it, but the babies do come out just fine.

Quitting smoking, I’ve had it… Serious replies only please?

I am 23, have been struggling with smoking for 11 years, & I’ve lowered myself down to less than half a pack of cigs a day. My nicotene addiction is high, & I am currently 7 mos pregnant. I have struggled with this the entire pregnancy. Everytime I quit, a war starts in my house because of my nerves. I go balistic. The thing is, I do *NOT* want to smoke anymore. I feel horrible for doing this to my unborn child, my husband, my daughter, & myself. If it’s not me smoking, it’s me with an attitude. I haven’t wanted to smoke for the longest time & I’ve tried to quit so many times & failed. My doctors refuse to give me any sort of help other than quitting cold turkey. This time I am determined to quit. I no longer want to smoke, I’m tired of the smell, the cravings, all of it. I’m done. What good non-medicinal things have worked for you, or what sort of advice could you give me? Tips for the nerves, and tips for quitting smoking. I have to quit. My family deserves better than this.
WHOAH! Lots of information here, all exciting & encouraging information so far! You people seriously rock. I went through and wrote down *everything* that you people gave me. If anyone else has anything to add, PLEASE DO! I’m gonna quit smoking, I know I will.

The following tips to reduce from smoking will help you succeed.

1 . No more social smoking.

2 . Substitute other activities for smoking.

3 . Cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke. Smoke only half of each cigarette.

4 . Don’t think of NEVER smoking again. Practice going without cigarettes.

5 . Avoid places and situations where you normally smoke.

6 . Exercise. It will take your mind off smoking, make you feel better, and keep you healthy.

7 . Buy lots of carrots, celery and other healthy foods so you can munch instead of smoke.

8 . Don’t drink alcohol. Alcohol will likely lower your willpower and increase your chances of having a cigarette.

Quitting cold turkey, as I was told by my OB, is actually worse than continuing to smoke during your pregnancy. The stress caused by quitting cold turkey can do more damage to the baby. It’s not good to smoke while pregnant, either, though. Your baby could be born early, with low birth weight, and/or with lung problems. If you can’t quit before your 12th week, my doctor said to at least cut down. Morning sickness when you smoke can actually be a blessing. If you CAN completely quit without stress, you can do that without stressing yourself or the baby out. But if it’s too much to handle, don’t try. Cutting down is best.

Has anyone here been successful at quitting smoking?

Hi,
I am 24 y/o with 4 young sons. I started smoking off and on from age 14. I quit during all of my pregnancies b/c it made me sick. I also did not smoke during the time that I breastfed. Last December, I quit smoking again, only to start back up about 3 mos ago. This time, I am smoking about a pack and a half a day, and I am finding it VERY hard to stop. My husband smokes as well, so even if I go all day without a cigarrette, I smoke as soon as he gets home. We do not smoke around our kids, but the older boys see us outside, and it breaks my heart to know that they know what we are doing is bad for us. I stay home 6 days a weeks with my children, so stress is a big issue for me. Has anyone here had success in quitting smoking, and what are some tips?
Thanks all.

admin answers:

Just don’t give up giving up!
That was me, it is all about method and what you know of your addiction.
The breakthrough for me is that I have learned that even if I lose a battle it doesn’t mean that I am a no good, will lacking individual.
I got to the point that I toyed with the habit by starting again so I give it up another time, confront the monster and beat it again. And every time I stayed off it for longer, this year I am NOT going back to it but even if I do stay off 8 months every year it is still better than one cig after the other. You are doing it too. Keep on giving up.
It is a NASTY habit but it can be beaten. I have been off it since february this time but am still hooked on Nicotine and chew gums. In a month I’ll give up on the gums and suffer another month (while swimming! It helps!) then I’ll be free for the summer, same as the last 4 summers, then hopefully this winter I won’t be an idiot again. Last winter was shorter though, I started chewing in february.
Here is one excellent and free resource for giving up http://whyquit.com/ pass this link along if you can, these people won’t even take donation so that’s the least we can do.
Read it all and chew. Then give up the chewing, DO NOT think you can ever smoke just one. Be aware you will be addicted FOR LIFE, it just becomes dorment but one puff and you are back to square one. If that happens, next time you’ll be BETTER equipped mentally to give it up, never think you are an idiot and no good at giving it up, just do not stop giving up and it gets easier to do. It’s all in the mind.

HELP! Need tips on conception and a healthy pregnancy?

My fiance (soon to be husband) have been attempting to conceive for well over a year. Before I hear that I’m too young, we are in good financial shape and would be capable of raising a child.

The problem is I just can’t seem to get pregnant and actually keep it. Here’s some background information that may or may not be helpful:
On my first pregnancy (not planned) with an ex, I was 17. I made it almost 3 months and miscarried. I made it a little over four months through my pregnancy earlier this year, but miscarried again. This happened at home while he was at work. I’ve of course come out positive many times but have had many extremely early miscarriages. This is a source of intense emotional anguish for me. I’m terrified that I will never be able to give birth and have been through more than my fair share of losses.

Now about myself- I’m 5’4, 93-98lbs. I do have endometriosis, I’m not sure to what extent as this diagnosis was a long time ago (I’ve suffered extreme pain and other symptoms since I was 10), and I’m not sure if/how this could possibly affect a pregnancy.
My mother and future mother in law suggested I try to gain weight, but whatever I put on always melts when I so much as *think* about exercise. My doctor always told me that despite being “underweight” for my height, I’m perfectly healthy. I’ve never had an eating disorder.
I quit smoking when I got pregnant for the first time, I’ve kept my drinking to a minimum (a glass of wine every now and then), and do not use any drugs. I’ve never had any addictions aside from smoking. I am not on any medication.
I’ve always eaten healthy. I cook my own food and very rarely eat junk or fast food. It’s just the way I was raised. I danced for 15 years and am in excellent physical shape. I still exercise on a weekly basis in addition to my job which requires me to be on my feet running back and forth with children for hours on end.
My fiance and I time our “bedroom times” around when I should be most likely to conceive. My cycle is exactly 28 days and has never varied from the first time I got it. It even comes at the same time of the day every month! We aim for the 12th-16th days of the cycle, which I was told is the best time. I lay still for at least 10 minutes afterwards, not sure if this is an old wives tale or what but I’m willing to try anything. :/

Ever since my last miscarriage, I have not had a single test come up as positive. I don’t know what else I could possibly do. I’m getting to the end of my rope here. I’m stressed, losing sleep. I don’t know what to do and I’m very afraid of either losing another one, or worse, never conceiving again. I feel like I’m too young to have this type of issue!

I haven’t been to a doctor in quite a while, and I’m very apprehensive about seeing one for this. If no other options exist however, I have no choice. What kind of foods, any tips or tricks that could be useful. Tell me anything that has worked. Or if there are any girls who have been through this at my age, do you have any helpful hints or insights? Anything that can help me cope or make this happen.

I’m welcoming any ideas here, so if you have even the smallest bit of info *please* post it!!

I would get your endometriosis checked to see if it has gotten worse. I was told to raise your hips a bit and lay there for about 30 minutes. I would see a doctor to see if he could explain why you are having miscarriages and your endo could be effecting. That is my 2cents. Hope it helps a bit.

The biggest thing to quitting is truly wanting too. Until someone is really ready to quit, it is nearly impossible. 2. Hurting any and all other family members in the home
3. Especially hurting children, second hand smoke kills and causes cancer as much as first hand smoke
4. Coughing, hacking, wheezing.. Whatever
5. Inability to do certain things for a long period of time
6. Have to deal with non smokers who hate me for the smoke
7. CANCER

The list has to be her own of course. She should post them up everywhere to remind herself of why she wants to do it.

If she isn’t able to stick with it, it won’t be your fault. You can’t help her, no one really can. Http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=stop+smoking+chat&mkt=en-us&FORM=IEFM&src=IE-Addressh

I put up a list of rooms for chatting on with others who are going to try to stop smoking. If she relies on only a few people, what happens when they are unable to be talked too for one day. She’ll be able to use them as an excuse and run off and smoke again. It’s an addiction, she’ll have a hard time not looking for reasons to smoke. It’s not like when someone says they wont’ have that candy bar… Addiction is something hard to understand unless you’ve been through it yourself.

Learn from your mom, don’t ever start smoking for any reason! You’ll say that’s easy, but then later on it will seem like a half way good idea. Be ready for it to enter your mind and be ready to kick it out!

Tell your mom i truly hope she is able to quit! It’s the best thing my husband and i ever did. We were both heavy smokers and it was hard, very hard. I won’t even bother to lie. But as time went on it got easier and easier.

The biggest pitfall… Thinking you can just have one cigarette since you haven’t had one in awhile. It leads to starting to fully smoke again with just that one smoke. Or taking a few puffs off of someone else’s.

The best way to stop is to make sure you don’t hang out in places that allow smoking and don’t hang out with friends who still smoke. If she does, she wont’ be able to truly stop in the long run. My husband and i had to stop seeing many friends for 6 months while we were quitting. It was awful to lose them like that, but we couldn’t be around them and the smoke and not cave in. In any addiction the mantra is change your playground and playmates. If you go and live your life exactly the same, how can you expect change? You have to change where you hang out and with those you hang out with.

That was the most important thing my husband and i did to stop that last time. We chose cold turkey as none of the other stuff worked for us either. Weaning down on nicotine didn’t help. I’ve not met anyone who was able to fully quit for years by using any of the stop smoking products out there. But i’m certain there are somewhere?

We used toothpicks to suck on, we used carrot sticks to nibble on. We started to exercise to help our bodies with the addictions. We drank lots and lots of water to flush the nicotine from our systems so that the cravings would lesson a tiny tiny bit. I played with rubber bands on my fingers. Twirling them around and around so that my hands had something to do and didn’t miss the cig as much. And i kept myself busy. Too busy. I kept stress down as it’s a huge trigger to want to smoke. Cigarettes numb your system and help you not feel emotions as much, so it was important to keep my emotions as stable as possible. I also learn to medidate to help me keep my emotions in check iwthout the cigarette drug. Yoga can be helpful as well.

It’s not easy, but well worth it! Take a long time to get all of it out of your system and to get your lungs healthy again. But well worth it! Also, to keep her children healthier. Just so you can let your mom know… The 10 year mark is another hurtle to get through. Not many realize that, but the studies have proven that the 10 year mark is when more people start smoking again. You think you have it under control so well that a cigarette or two won’t hurt. Then wham, you are smoking like you never stopped. If you know about that time frame, it’s easier to get past.

Tell your mom good luck. But i said she won’t need it if she is serious and truly ready to stop. I know she’s strong enough to stop, since she has children. Having a child is way harder.

There aren’t any herbs that a professional would suggest you use in an attempt to quit smoking, like many other ideas including hypnosis and lasers.

There are a number of medications that are clinically proven to help in quit attempts including Nicotine gum, Nicotine Inhalers, Nicotine patches, Zyban, Wellbutrin, and the newest drug available is Chantix.

The best idea is to go to your doctor and discuss it with them, they will be able to help you pick the best medication for you.

ALSO- it is proven that getting counciling, either one-on-one or in a group is highly beneficial as well as support from friends or family.

NO drugs! Youre stronger than that YAY!
Find a hobby, find something that’s going to keep your mind, fingers, and self busy. You will find you have more time and money on your hands! Walking, crafts, somethign youre interested in….do something to get inspired about..it will take your mind off the tobacco. The major hurdle, honestly is the hand to mouth movement. I found that I gained a confidence when I quit, but at first felt ackward because I didnt know what to do with my hands. You can also try eathing lots of veggies sticks, chew gum…whatever floats your boat, but the healthier the better…..
Drink tons of water to help get the toxins out. In the first week, I would buy herbs and roll them in a cigarette, now adays they sell pure herbal cigarettes at health food stores. They dont taste the best but I would smoke one when i just couldnt stand it any longer! And as the week went on I smoked less of the cigarette. I would not use these as a replacement, but only as a last resort…
Take vitamins too.
Good luck, I did it.
And you will find that once you actually have quit, you will stop saying that you quit……..;)

Quitting Smoking Cold Turkey!!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!?

Just smoked my last one today. This is hard. Aside from telling me to just give up on the cold turkey and using nicotine supplements to stop smoking, can anyone give me any advice? Best ways to curb the cravings?? Help me out!!

There is something in your favor right off. Did you know that 100 % of men that quit smoking cold turkey suceed more than women?? My doctor told me that and they can’t prove why. I’m sure that is not helping you out right now. But, it might later…..

The 5th time quiting is also supposed to be the charm. They can’t answer why to that either.

More people stay off cigarettes going cold turkey than any other way. The “crutches” don’t seem to hold up in the long haul.

The craving that grabs you out of no where is the killer. You are just sitting there and here it comes….WHAM! Give me a cigarette!! I don’t care if I die, I really don’t!

I have used every excuse to man kind to start smoking again and I usually use it too. It is more difficult to quit smoking than any other drug, legal or illegal….I am good. I tell you all the stuff you don’t need to hear……

I will miss smoking forever. I have COPD and lung cancer, all from smoking. I would still be smoking, except if I do, I cannot breathe. I don’t know if you have any medical problems yet, but you will. We all do, sooner or later. I am on massive meds. Everything except oxygen. That’s my last stop before going on to whatever is next. And you know what I thought about? I wonder if wherever we go after dying, can we smoke and not get sick..Is that sick or what?

OK!! Find a hobby you have not tried before. Something you will not associate with smoking. I learned how to knit and that was great because it used my hands. I found the best mouth thing is suckers. Drink a lot of water and any kind of fruit juice. Go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned. Then brush your teeth every time you go in the bathroom. Take a lot of showers. I don’t know why the shower works, but it does. Eat anything and any time you want. Don’t worry about weight now. Do some form of exercise every day, even if it is walking around the block.

Hope this helps. You are more than welcome to use my email for support if you like. After a while it gets to the point of you being bigger and stronger than this killer wrapped around your neck….. Good Luck and God Bless! He does help too, if you ask..

admin answers:

First off, congratulations on quitting smoking! I’ve quit several times and I do the same thing; I eat instead of smoke. It’s not how often you eat necessarily, it’s WHAT you eat. You’ve already admitted to eating too much junk food. Just replace that with food that’s good for you; instead of sweets, try some apples w/low-fat caramel or oranges … Munch on sunflower seeds, yogurt smoothies, cheese. And try an exercise routine. I personally walked … A lot. I walked after dinner every night, and I live really close to ‘downtown’, so I’d walk instead of drive. Also, take an omega-3 pill before you walk (it’ll help you lose weight quicker). You can buy them pretty much anywhere that sells vitamins. You can do this!

You just quit. You condition your brain to be that of a non-smoker. Look at cigarettes as being the most disgusting things ever. Try to get yourself into a mind set where you look at somebody smoking and it grosses you out.
People that “quit” and then start back later on, they never quit. They just took long pauses. When you truly quit, you never EVER have another.

Yes nicotine is physically addicting, but it has been proven that within days after your last cig, the nicotine levels in your body is all but gone. Your body starts healing itself almost immediately after your last smoke. The hardest thing is the mental conditioning.

Just do it. Build an inner strength, and stick with it. You can do it, you just gotta do it.

It’s cheesy to quote Yoda, but this line is dead on perfect.
“Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.”

What is the best way to quit smoking which is reasonably inexpensive?

I need to stop smoking. I got addicted and didn’t think I would. It sucks and I hate them, but I cannot stop. Don’t even say cold turkey…

admin answers:

Well, I think most nicotine patches and nicotine gum and the like is generally somewhat expensive, but that is just what I have heard, as I have never bought any myself, so maybe you ought to look into it. If you don’t want to quit cold turkey, you could just try to regulate how much you smoke every day, and then gradually decrease the # of cigarettes you smoke (since that is the idea behind the patches and gum, so you gradually need less and less nicotine). You would have to be strict with yourself for that to work though, and not just decide you can smoke 5 more cigs for the day, just because you have a bad day, or bum a bunch off of your friends. You could maybe set out however many you are going to smoke for the day, and put them in an empty pack, and then just smoke from that pack, so you won’t be tempted by a whole bunch of cigarettes sitting in your pocket. You actually have to be determined to quit though, or nothing will work.

admin answers:

Congratulations on deciding to quit smoking. It takes a lot to even realize it’s time.

There really isn’t a method to quitting. I know people that have used gum, and It does help with the nicotine withdrawal effects (headaches, rage, etc) (but I suggest if you use it, don’t read the boxes and do the step one, step two, step three thing. It is just a scam and ends up costing more than cigarettes.) The thing I’ve heard is the hardest to deal with, is the actual habit nor the addiction. The habit of going outside after eating and standing there smoking, the habit of smoking in the car, while drinking, and any other time that you usually have a smoke. I suggest going to a local candy store and purchasing cinnamon flavored sticks. They’re toothpicks soaked in cinnamon oil. It creates the effect of having a smoke. They also make cotton candy flavored ones around here. Also, hard candy can help, or gum. Anything to take your mind off of it.

There’s really nothing more to say here, just keep the determination! I’m sure your friend would be very proud of you.
Good luck!

Ex Smokers, what would you consider the best method of quitting smoking?

Im not talking about cold turkey. Ive been smoking for 15 years, and I feel like its time to quit. What are some of the best ways that have helped long time smokers quit.

Also, what do people think of the electric cigarettes? Do they work for quitting cigs, or is it just for the physical addiction.
Yeah, while cold turkey CAN work, for me, its not so much of an option. lol. Im Bi-polar, so my mood swings without nicotine fits are bad as is. I live with my family that deals with me as I am.

admin answers:

I have been using electric cigarettes for a few months and they have helped my hubby and I in our quest to quit. I’m cigarette free since 2.9.10.

It makes it soo easy to cut back since you are still getting the nicotine you crave. Week one I went from a pack a day to a 3-5 cigs a day. The hard part was choosing to stop the regular cigs completely. But once you realize the nicotine in ecigs really works, it makes you see you don’t need the real cigarettes anymore. And since I was only having a few smokes a day my packs were lasted so long they were getting stale, that helped too, my cigs started to taste bad, it even started to make me sick when I smoked them.

I am still addicted to nicotine, but I’ve been cutting my nicotine levels back in steps. I am to the point now I use 2 different carts Low and 0 nicotine. I only use the low cart when I am having a craving. I use the 0mg when I feel like I just need to put something in my mouth or just want to puff because it tastes good. I am on track to be nicotine free next month.

I should mention, for this to work you do need to start at the appropriate nicotine level to satisfy your cravings enough to get off regular cigarettes. Then you can start the cutting back process.

It costs me between $30-$35 a month to smoke. The flavors are also amazing, I thought I would want tobacco flavors, but quickly switched to fruity flavors, my favorite is banana cream.

I found a good vendor that was willing to take the time to answer my questions and support me. If you go the ecig route, you should find a vendor that YOU feel comfortable with. For me that was Epic-Vapor, but there are HUNDREDS to choose from, just google.

How to help, not enable 18 year old son?

My beloved son started smoking pot at 17 & moved out. He lived with several different friends, then got a leaky travel trailer to rent. His only income has been social security survivor benefits (his dad died when he was 3). He still gets them because he is still trying to graduate high school. Well, he had almost graduated, then stopped going, saying he couldn’t find transportation. He lives 20 miles away from me, so I couldn’t take him. Anyways, he called the other day. Says he can’t find a job, is out of food and will soon have no phone and be homeless. (His money will end when school gets out in June) I took him to the free food pantry & bought him a microwave a couple weeks ago. I suggested he go to Job Corps, he refused saying he didn’t like the rules, that it is sponsored by the government, etc.I explained that at least in Job Corps he could get his diploma, a bed, food , a little money and a skill til he figured out what he wanted to do. He said his career goal was to get a job flipping burgers, just enough to pay the rent and eat, but nothing more. He said “I guess you could say my career goal is to do as much of nothing as possible” I suggested he cut his long hair at least until he lands a job, then he could grow it back after he proved himself a good worker. He said he couldn’t afford one. I said collect cans, he said he has only found 2 bucks in 2 months. I said I was sorry & didn’t know how to help. He said e might not talk for a long time, since he wont have a phone. I said he could call me on a pay phone. He said “Great, I call my mom, tell her I’m losing everything & she say find 50 cents on the ground, well I’ll need that 50 to survive”! I was very worried, but I have no money. He snapped at me that he knew that. I didn’t know what else to say except I love you son, and hope & pray the very best for you. We hung up, I feel lost and helpless. I fear he will either kill himself, commit a crime for easy money or live under a bridge with a cardboard sign. I can’t just let him come home when he has made it clear he has no goals, won’t give up drinking and smoking pot (he has 4 younger siblings at home). As his mommy, I would love to just bring him home and take care of him, but as him loving mom, I know it would only hurt all of us. I suggested he go to counseling for his depression, he refused. Is there anything constructive I can do? I feel like I’m just standing back watching him give up on life before it has even begun
From the ages of 4 to 9, he was like a super genius egghead kind of kid, wanted to be an archaeologist, was in advanced classes etc. Then his 2 older cousins moved in with us temporarily cuz their mom went to prison. They taught him to skateboard. It changed his whole outlook on life. He has never done anything criminal, except smoke pot. He is super intelligent and excels at any task he puts his mind to. We always called him British, because he has a certain class and distinguished aire about his personality, so this sad new life he has chosen is the extreme opposite of whom any of us thought he would become.
Jessie, I totally agree with you! We always thought he would become one of those successful managers that have never worked the field, but get paid big bucks to order the real workers around. Not sure I would be proud of that either, but at least he would have something.

You have done what you could and that is all you can do. You do need to tell him if he wants to do as much of nothing as possible then flipping burgers is not the way. Only someone who has never flipped burgers could think it would be so easy. The pay is minimum wage and not enough to live off of and the work is hot, not very easy and very stressful. If he really wants to to much of nothing then he should continue his education and find a job where he can manage to do that. Only with an education can you really do much of nothing because people who use their brains tend to do less manual labor.

When you care too much about someone who doesn’t care at all…?

Ok, so I met this guy, and basically he his all bad boy looking, dark messy hair, green eyes, rebel style, he has a band, music means everything to him, he smokes weed, he gets high many times. His father left him when he was born, he lived with his mother until he was 16. Then his mother went to France and he has been living alone in another country since that age. He has 10 brothers, 5 that he doesn’t even know. He had a very difficult childhood, life has been really hard for him. I’ve met him 9 months ago, we had something last summer, actually he cheated on his girlfriend with me, but still we are really good friends (with benefits :p). The problem is, because of everything that has happened to him, he doesn’t care about anything at all. And when I say he doesn’t care about nothing, I REALLY DO MEAN NOTHING! (never met someone like this). If something happens and someone gets upset with him, if he thinks isn’t his fault he will never apologize, because he doesn’t give a f***. He thinks he doesn’t need anyone on his life, that he can survive alone and with his music, like he always had. But that is not true. We can’t live without friends, family. We just can’t, but how can I make him realize he needs us? He needs someone, he needs to start to care about other people’s feelings, he needs to stop lying to his girlfriend who actually believes that he loves her and poor girl that doesn’t even know how many times he has cheated on her. Please don’t tell me that this guy ain’t not gonna change until his life is totally turned upside down and he has no choice and also, don’t tell me that if he cheated on his girlfriend with me, he will cheat on me with someone else, believe I already know that, I know him to well. It’s just not about the cheating thing, it’s about everything. I just can’t leave him alone. He will just end up giving up on life and I can’t let that happen There is gotta be other way. Please help. I really do care about him.

POLL: This Guy got his little FEELINGS hurt…?

O.K, there’s this friend I have who is pretty, and everyone likes her… including UNWANTED admirers.
This one admire’s name was Jermey. She was nice to him once, just out of courtesy, but he took it the wrong way.

He kept calling her (After looking into her phone.) and he pursued her more after she turned him down for his invitation to the college potluck.

He’s not EXACTLY a looker. His eyes look in two different directions and the whites of his eyes are brown-yellow and he smokes a lot. He is EXTREMELY large and wear dirty, grungy clothes.
His face is covered in coarse hair and ance and razor bumps and he sweats A LOT. ONe tooth juts out from his upper lip.

When he eats, he gets PLATEFULS of food and scarfs it down like a snorting pig. He takes pride in belching and likes to fart. Mind you, his fafarts smell like old cottage cheese, rotten milk and garbage. He claims to have trained his butthole like a trumpet, able to produce desired sounds at will.

One day, He overheard Dennise talking in the cafeteria and she was telling me:

“OMG, Shel, it’s ALWAYS the fat ugly LOSERS… Why cant they EVER leave me alone? What’s WRONG with me? It’s like Im CURSED or something!!! It’s always the car-less, job-less FAT… DISGUSTING slobs like that JEREMY. He is GROSS, FAT and I’ll BET he hasn’t seen that small dick in YEARS. He needs to get it strait that I dont LIKE him. I HATE that FUGLY son of a ******, Piece of Sh**… He needs to get on somewhere. He doesn’t know everytime I see him, I throw up in my mouth.” Why doesn’t he just stick to his “own” low kind?

He heard her three tables away and got up, fleeing the scene, crying. He almost dropped his tray, but managed to put it on top of the garabe can before blasting out of the doors.

Guys, if you heard this being said about you, would it ruin your day?
Do you think she was too harsh?
Or did the guy need to hear it?
Or was this the only thing that would make him go away?

Dennise said he’d follow her to the bus stop and say things like “You, know, I’m not a bad guy once you get to know me.” and “Being friends always has “benefits.”
He also bragged that his navel lint was “green”.

Oh, and while she was ranting, I tried to calm her down, but she just got more and more upset like she was breaking under pressure and couldn’t take it. This Jeremy guy was determined to get her. He even showed up in front of her and her other friends. He hung around her and ruined her “perfect” image.

She’s also very nice, but it seems the nicer she is, the more guys feel she wants to be more than friends which is clearly not the case… espcially not in this case. I had never seen her so frustrated and angry.

Dennise is very preppy and people say she was a b itch and a snob, but I honestly cant blame her for this one.

Was she wrong or right?

what would you do if someone you had to sit near picks their nose and smells real bad?

I do some volunteer work proofreading for a charity, i’ve been doing if for a year off my own back to help out a charity but recently, the past few weeks a lad has started there (he was forced to go as part of a New Deal scheme so he gets his dole/benefit money, his papers were left strewn about in the room one day). Anyway he smells absolutely terrible. I’ve opened the windows wide to give him the hint but the smell is still overpowering and it was so bad last week that despite walking home in the fresh air, his stink was all over my cardigan, trousers etc that I had to put them straight in the wash. To top that off he picks his nose for long periods of time, then eats it, then puts his dirty fingers all over the shared computer mouse & keyboard and regularly strokes his greasy long black hair afterwards. The full time employed workers, all ladies, work in a separate spacious room so haven’t got to put up with it but I’m now sadly going to have to stop going as his behaviour is so repulsive I can’t bear being in the same room as him. Why can’t some people bloody wash? It doesn’t help that he smokes as well. I think I ought to tell the women there, it’s only courtesy, why I won’t be going again so at least they know what the problem is. I know the New Deal scheme is 13 weeks long so perhaps they could phone me back when he’s gone so I can resume work there, I think he’s got about 8 weeks left to go). One of my relatives thinks that maybe he’s waiting for someone to complain so he gets transferred and that the other volunteers who go there have either just stopped going or haven’t had the guts to say anything). But either way he’s absolutely gross. I’m intrigued what would you do if you were in my place?

need advice about low testosterone levels?

alright long story with a short question..
im just trying to stop all of the follow up questions in advance.

back in 2005 i was working in louisiana after huricane katrina. i work for the govnmnt but do not have insurance, its kinda like a contract job. but whenever i am at large operations like that i always have the benefit of having a doctor on site for free treatment. ..soo…

by the way I am 34 now, and was 29 almost 30 then.

after i was there for a few months i was really tired and run down. and extremely grumpy. almost hostile at imes. very unlike me. i thought it was a stress issue due to the long hours and a few other things. i didnt really notice i had no sex drive because i was away from home and my significant other. but either way i hadnt woke up with a Mr. happy in weeks, maybe months. my sex drive at home was pretty much nonexistant also before i left. i was looking for excuses to get out of my manly duties.
mostly the problem was that i was feeling very short tempered with people i had to work with at this point. so i went to the doctor and told her the symptoms, she asked me some questions. “sex drive stuff i hadnt thought of” and said i was expereincing low testosterone. i was also getting pretty out of shape. my arms were getting skinny. my gut was getting flabby. but i noticed it mostly in my usually very well developed legs. they were starting to look like female legs. no hair. hardly any muscle tone. and i was getting fat deposits on them. i thought it was because of long hours, and no exersize. but the effects were too dramatic.
anyway.. its pretty clear my testosterone levels were low. she told me she could do a blood test to determine whether i should use injections or gel or patch. and i asked her some questions. mostly about side effects.. we have all heard the horrible things about steroids in the media.. shrinking balls, baldness, cancer! she said i would probably need testosterone therapy of some sort for the rest of my life. i was mortified.. i had been the picture of health my whole life.. very active, ate right. low blood pressure. reasonable body fat to muscle ratio. didnt smoke, drank in moderation.
this type of thing only happened to people who didnt take care of themselves right?
i told her i needed to think about some things and look into some different options.

so i went back to my office and started looking at different treatments online. different symptoms.
natural treatments. i ran accross hundreds of “natural” remedies. herbs.. root extracts.. vitamin combinations. im sure if you are reading this you have ran accross several yourself.
so a few things led me to my decision to try some natural remedies. firstly the doctor told me it was possible that my test levels were low because of the long stressfull hours and lack of sex..
so maybe just a few little things here and there could help out right..
well first i tried some stuff i ordered off the internet. it was a liquid drop you held under your tongue. tesocurlone i think it was called. i also increased my b complex vitamins.
well that did it.. after about 3 or 4 days i woke up with a raging rock hard erection. i thought – hell i should be a doctor.. i felt better. my muscles felt stronger.
the affects however were shortlived. after about 3 months of this, i started to see a decline in my sex drive and energy. also since i work out semi regularly i could tell my performance was fading. weaker, and less stamina ..
so on to another remedy… then another… then another…
the results over the past few years have almost always been the same. i have tried different combinations of herbs… nettle root, vitamins and over the counter remedies from health food stores.
they seem to help for a while until my body kind of “runs out” its almost like its sputtering. up and down.
so now im about to change jobs and have insurance in april. to celebrate i went to 2 different doctors here in town to try to maybe get my testosterone levels regular and steady. i have decided that everyone grows old but at 34 i want to be able to enjoy the time i have and its very hard to do physical activities like riding mountain bikes and playing basketball when you feel like you are 64 instead of 34. i dont care about performance enhancing, only enjoying life.
so the first doctor i went to i told him all these things. he asked me about my job and personal relationships. asked me how much i worked out. which is always 2 hours of full court basketball on sunday and light weight training once or twice during the week during winter. but summertime im always outside, riding, hiking, building things, whatever i can do to enjoy the outdoors.
he took my vitals and tested my blood, but for cholesteral and lipids and stuff rather than test.
he said i thought i was depressed. he rattled off a couple antidepressants he thought i could have some success with. he said steroids were basically the devil. they would kill me if i too
kill me if i quit taking them. low testosterone was part of getting older. i just had to accept it.

i was stunned at first. i didnt know what to say. i left the drs office feeling like an old man. like it was all downhill, i should just enjoy the ride. i started thinking about quitting basketball. since honestly it was becoming a huge struggle to keep up. i obviously needed to drastically alter my diet to accomidate about 1600 calories a day. i thought, well what can i do the Dr said this and that. i dont really have much choice.
then i had a novel idea. ill go to a different DR! and i did. i looked in the phone book. called. made sure i was going to see a doctor who was under 50. went and he proceded to tell me some of the same things the first doctor did. except that he was under the impression i was trying to use him to score steroids for performance enhancing.
i think he assumed since i am kinda muscular and bigger that i was looking for a legal way to get “gains”. by the way im 6-1 about 230lbs. i have a 50 inch chest and a 38 inch waist. i got this big in high school while i was rowing crew except now my body fat is all out of whack and my arms are kinda skinny looking with very little tone. my chest is getting flabby. and my waist is reaching maximum density. and remember for the past few years i have been trying every over the counter and natural remedy combination i can find with mixed results and little success. the hardest thing to do when my testosterone drops is finding motivation to exersize or be active at all. i just want a steady healthy energy level that will allow me to live a healthy active lifestyle instead of basically rolling over and dying.
the second doctor said my test levels were low but within acceptable range. around 400 i think he said. he told me if i worked out naturally and watched my diet i could get them up
natuarally with out steroids. i tried to explain that i have been trying that for the past 4 or 5 years. but he was not swayed.
here is the problem. i live in a small town that is for the most part very conservative. most of the doctors here are older from the old school that seem to think steroid therapy is akin to witchcraft and cheating in some way. i have went to 2 doctors here and neither was willing to help, well the old guy wanted to put me on zoloft or welbutrin or something. and the younger guy though that i was trying to “get juiced” he was a smaller younger guy kinda skinny and i think he may have had a napoleon complex of some kind.
im tired of the erratic sex drive and energy levels. im tired of feeling like i just ran a marathon ofter sex if it does get to that point. (i take stamina RX, OTC) im tired of being grumpy and angry. and im tired of being tired. i live in the WV, OH, KY tristate area. does anyone know of a doctor that would be willing to help
alright.. couple of quality responses, but not what i am asking for.
firstly, i am not seeking advice on the forum. i already have a pretty good idea of what is needed through research. i dont claim to know more than a doctor ofcourse, but a family practitioner over 60 years old might be a bit out of touch with up to date treatments. also let me just let everyone know right off the bat.. i am not depressed. i lead a pretty stabile life that is rewarding and active. i have tried treating this problem with every kind of extract, diet, food, or supplement i could find reason to believe in. and like i said, some have had some positive altho temporary results. i am asking…. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A DOCTOR OR CLININC IN THE WV, OH, KY areaTHAT SPECIALIZES IN THIS TREATMENT. i do not need any more advice. i need real treatment for a real problem.i wrote the novel cover all possible facets so as to weed out the good advice givers and people telling me steroids are not the answer

Low Test, First of all let me tell you I have been taking testosterone injections and using Andro Gel for over 12 years and the Endocrinologist who prescribed Test for me told me I would have to use it the rest of my life and I fully intend on doing just that. Contrary to what you hear or read on the internet or from people who know nothing about testosterone replacement therapy, TRT – there are “absolutely no adverse side effects” from taking TRT. None! The testosterone in the injections is exactly the same as what your body makes naturally and all you are doing is replacing what your body is not producing. However having said that, there is one side affect if you plan on having children because it will lower your sperm count and you’ll become virtually infertile. So if you want children have them first before taking Test. This infertility can be reversed if you stop taking Test but it will take awhile for your body to recuperate, at least 8 weeks or more, probably more like a couple months. The only way to find out for sure if your Test is low or why it is low is to have a blood test measuring several factors that could cause low test, e.g. Your LH & FSH hormones, prolactin, the aromatase enzyme, & your testicles production. My diagnosis was “idiopathic hypogonadism” which means the reason is unknown why my testicles were not functioning normally. Ironically my doctor is in WV but might not be close to you since he is in Petersburg and also in Mt Storm. He’s at the VA clinic in Petersburg and his private practice in Mt Storm, Dr. Alan Kunkel but my advice would be go see an Endocrinologist or a Urologist, not some general practitioner. There are also Hormone Replacement Therapy Clinics in some of your larger cities that specialize in this. If you need any more information you can contact me @ fototag@rocketmail.com I’m very familiar with TRT and also the use of steroids having used both in the past 20 yrs.
P.S. If you go to the following site they have a section on HRT where you can read about personal experiences from guys who are using Test & HGH.Hormone Replacement Therapy, Longevity, Wellness, Anti-Aging, Alternative Medicine

The answer is a: The hypnotist would suggest changes in Robert’s feelings, perceptions, thoughts, or behaviors related to smoking.

“With the assistance of a hypnotist, a subject chooses what they wish to explore and the hypnotist suggests changes in the feelings, perceptions, thoughts, or behaviors related to this subject.”

Smoking, or any other addiction, for that matter, stems from stress. Perhaps you may be sensitive enought to ‘know’ his feelings re certain things and try to work sensitively around them, since he is unable to talk about most things that stress him. Or, if he talking at all, he is finding it more stressful that some issues are not solved. Life is always providing us with stresses; there are healthy ways to resolve some stress; other stresses we have no control over, we need to find ways not to ‘beat’ it(displacing stress onto smoking, drinking, drugs, etc), but to ‘work around’ it, like doing emotional ‘tai-chi’, a stressless way to overcome things beyond our control.

You could start by affirming him when you can, if not, daily. Say accurrate things about him that you also feel good about saying. Compliments are not flattery. This will not work in the long run. Be accurate about what you say, so he is more certain you mean what you say about him (pls tone down the negative side of him, we all have that too, including you) in a kindly way, not in a way that shows him you are seeking something else from him. Affirmations are not ‘hooks’. We do all the time in business or in many relationships. Tone down on that. Genuine relationships last with discernment of what is genuinely ‘laughable’ or funny, not what is funny at someone else’ expense. I believe this is called growing up while growing old.

Cheers! I hope this helps a little…

How successful is hypnosis really when it comes to quitting smoking or losing weight?

admin answers:

Hypnosis can be very effective in helping people both quit smoking and lose weight.

Weight Loss:
Working with a hypnotherapist can help you address the most important factors for permanent weight loss: healthy eating, motivation to exercise, portion control, and identifying and removing triggers that may cause “emotional eating.”

Smoking Cessation:
A study conducted at the University of Iowa in 1992 found that hypnosis was the MOST effective treatment for smoking cessation as compared to other techniques (patch, gum, etc).

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis, which combines the results of more than 600 studies covering 72,000 people in the U.S. Who participated in various cessation techniques. They found that subjects that underwent hypnotism had the highest success rate of quitting.

I’ve tried so many things PLEASE HELP!?

I’ve tried the patch, the lozenges, hypnosis, the gum, and recently switching brands (from Newport>>KOOL>>Marlboro Menthol Ultra Lights>>and now, Virginia Slims Menthol Ultra Lights). I want to quit so badly, but I get so depressed and I feel like my personal growth with myself is at stake. I start to get upset about things that I had long got over, it‘s like when I quit all of it comes back. I’m trying so hard to work on myself (I had a rough past but I want a bright future), I don’t want to let anything that had kept me down before still keep me there today. Smoking is one of many. I feel like I’m unattractive and singled out because of it. I’m already a unique person (not meaning in a bad way), don’t help my image. People get the wrong impression (like lesbian, very offensive). I’m pretty, smart, attractive, and so many other good things. It took me years to feel that way about myself, but the cigarettes I feel like they’re holding me back. As soon as my nicotine level drops here come the depression and my emotional state, my self-esteem, and self- worth all come tumbling down. It’s just so much! Why can’t I do this? I want so much for me and I feel like cigarettes are holding me back from them. Please help me!

I smoked for ten years. This is how I quit. I started out by counting how many cigs I smoked in a day. Then the next day, I smoked one less. I did this again and again until I got it down. I did have some days that I was unable to move to the next level. I did not knock myself, but rather spoke positively to myself and said that it is ok, tomorrow I will do better. I kept this up until I got it down to taking a few drags and putting the cig out. Finally, I decided, ok, this is the day. And stopped. I did realize that I had to replace the oral fixation and so bought some sucking candies to replace the mouth being busy thing. I finally quit and have been nicotine free now for 7 years. However, in retrospect, it is a very long and horrific detox off of nicotine and would have instead (if I had to do it over again) would have also used a nicotine replacement patch. I was very angry and aggressive for 2 months. It takes that long for your body to detox. DO NOT GIVE UP. As far as mental illness issues you need to be working on those before, during and after this process until you are well mentally, and physically. Make sure to be doing lots of cardio as this will raise the good feelings in your brain and keep the weight off that you may gain. There are addditives to cigs that help with weight loss which is also why people are afraid to quit. Eventually, I no longer needed the candies and the working out did me wonders. You can do this. Oh, I almost forgot. I also had to stop going to the places that made me smoke. Kind of like a drug addict no longer allowed to hang out with his or her druggie friends. I had to stop going to bars, drinking (as this was what I accompanied cigs with) etc. Alchohol is a depressant anyway and you should not be near it if you are having any issues. Also, joining a support group of people dealing with your issues would help very much as well. Good luck to you.

Hello Michael

Hypnosis can be very affective against the smoking habit.

The reason why it fails in some is that they are not ready to stop. A good hypnotherapist would not take on a client who’s subconscious mind was not ready, if they did it would be to tackle the reasons that keep them smoking first.

Hypnosis can also eliminate cravings etc.

Does hypnosis really work for quitting smoking?

I’ve been struggling with cigarette smoking for many years, and have tried most of the popular stuff out there without any permanent results, including gum, patch, and cold turkey.

This has compelled me to look into hypnotherapy.
Sure, its worth a try but don’t throw a lot of money at it if it isn’t working. And just make sure the hypnotist doesn’t have you take off your clothes, or crawl around the floor like a donkey every time you want a cig. That would be embarrassing!

Hypnosis may work for some, but it didn’t for me and it’s expensive. I smoked for over 35 years and quit for exactly 6 months and 1 day. Started back smoking for about 2 months and gave it another try. Smoke free for about 4 months now. Here’s how I did it. Best of luck.
